Ms. Scates was the head nurse when I worked on the Med/Surge/Oncology floor in 1991 at Blount Memorial Hospital. I was 24 years old and pregnant. Toward the end of my pregnancy I was diagnosed Hodgkin's Disease. I had no family here in Tennessee and the staff on 5 South supported me and surrounded me with love and care. Ms. Scates was so kind and caring during this very difficult time in my life. Fast forward 14 years and I again had to face a cancer diagnosis of Acute Myloid Leukemia (caused by the treatments of radiation/chemo I had for Hodgkin's). I was admitted to 5 North this time at Blount Memorial for intensive chemotherapy and ended up being there for two months. I'll never forget when Ms. Scates came into my room to say Hi and check on me...I was so comforted to see a familiar face. At one point the nurses could not get an IV started and Ms. Scates came in and did it herself, taking special care to be as gentle as she could since I had been through so much. She was a very special nurse and I'll never forget her kindness. My deepest condolences to the family.

Diana, she was one of the best nurses I had the privilege to work with at Blount. I'm sorry for the loss of your sweet mom.
