A service will be held on July 2, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at the East TN State Veterans Cemetery, 2200 E. Gov. John Sevier Hwy 168, Knoxville, TN, where Bill will be laid to rest with military honors.

William (Bill) Houston Winn, 72, of Alcoa, TN, passed away on March 30, 2025. Born on September 2, 1952, in Charlotte, NC, Bill was the son of the late Robert (Bob) and Estelle (Holmes) Winn.
A proud patriot and dedicated serviceman, Bill enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1971 and devoted 36 years to serving his country. He retired in 2007 with the rank of Chief Master Sergeant after a distinguished career that included deployments during the Vietnam War, Operation Desert Storm, and Operation Iraqi Freedom. The majority of his military service was spent leading the Life Support Shop at the 134th Air Refueling Wing at McGhee Tyson Air National Guard Base in Knoxville, where he was deeply respected by his peers and those he mentored.
Bill is survived by his two daughters, Melissa (Matt) Webb and Amanda Painter, and five grandchildren, Ella, Ava, and Olivia Webb, and Lila and Houston Painter. He is also survived by his brother John Carter Winn; niece and nephew, Tawnya and Kyle Winn; and his beloved dog, Lee. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Barbara Winn.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Wounded Warrior Project—two causes close to Bill’s heart.
