A celebration of this man’s wonderful life will be Saturday, August 29, 2026, at Memorial Funeral Home, 1102 Big Springs Road, Maryville, TN. Family will receive friends from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm. Funeral service will be in the Chapel of Memorial Funeral Home at 3:00 pm. Burial will follow at Unita Cemetery in Friendsville. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Memorial Funeral Home at 1102 Big Springs Road, Maryville, TN 37801 or by using the donation tab on the website.

Wilfred Layton Moody was born at home in Loudon County, Tennessee, on April 29, 1940. The son of the late Layton and Ruby Dunlap Moody, he passed away on August 25, 2026, at Liberty Assisted Living in Maryville, TN. Wilfred was a charter member of the 43:19 Ministries Church on 3rd Street in Maryville. He was the devoted husband of Sheree Lynn Moody for 44 years, and in those 44 years they shared many adventures together, traveling to many countries and all over the United States and Canada. Wilfred was the father to his children, Cheryl Ann Moody and husband Gary Smith, Payth and wife Kathy Moody, Stephanie and husband John Borden, and special friend and caregiver, Michelle Rex. Wilfred was also papaw to Ashley Moody, Elizabeth and Reese Borden. He was preceded in death by his sister Gail Moody Satterfield, mother in law- Virginia Boring Key, daughter- Cheryl Moody, father in law- William Don Cooper, brother in law -William Donnie Cooper and brother in law-Harold Carpenter. He is also survived by his sister, Doris Moody; brother-in-law, Ivan Satterfield; brother and sister-in-law, Pastor David and Brenda Gail Cooper; sisters-in-law, Kay Carpenter and Kathy Cooper; and in-laws Mary Cooper and Bill Key. He is also survived by his best friends Doug & Cheri Dubey, Mike & Laura Burnet, Tim & Pam Stinnett, Pastor Dale and Teresa Buchanan, Pastor David and Gail Cooper, and Pat and Alton Hamblett of Virginia. Wilfred was a 1958 graduate of Friendsville High School and then enlisted in the US Air Force, where he served his country for 8 years in Vietnam and Alaska. He returned to Friendsville in 1966, where he began his career with the US Postal Service. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. In 1988, he gave his heart to Jesus at South Haven Church of God. Wilfred was a pillar of his church. He loved serving his church and was dedicated to serving as a deacon and head greeter for 25 years.
