Nellie L. Broyles, lovingly known as Grandma and Nana to her grandchildren, passed away peacefully in her home on September 4, 2026, at the age of 92.
Nellie spent much of her life in Rockford and Maryville, Tennessee, where she built a life centered around hard work, faith, and, most importantly, her family. She was a woman who was spunky, strong-willed, generous and loved her people with all her heart.
She was happiest when she was doing something for the people she loved and spending quality time with her family. She showed her love through cooking and baking, especially her beloved sweet treats and her famous chicken and dumplings at Christmas.
Nellie’s greatest legacy was the love she poured into her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.
She is survived by her children, Vernon Kyle (Diane) Broyles and Randy Broyles; her grandchildren, Shannon (Christi) Broyles, Aaron (Morgan) Broyles, Ryan Broyles, Laura (Josh) Trentham; and her great-grandchildren, Levi and Josie Trentham, and Jack and Riley Broyles.
She also leaves behind many cherished family members who held a special place in her heart, including her niece Carol (Dennis) Bettis; great-niece Jenny Berry; great-nephews Justin and Jake Bettis; niece Linda (A.B.) McTeer, and former daughter-in-law Mary Pryor, as well as many other nieces and nephews.
Nellie was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, Thurman “Jack” Broyles; her parents, Jake and Beulah Berry; her siblings, including her very close sister, Bonnie Morton, and nephew James Berry.
Nellie was one of a kind, and she will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
