Mary Maudie Newport went home to Jesus and was reunited with her family and friends on September 2nd, after battling years of heart disease. She was a devoted RN for 30 years. She was a proud graduate from the class of 1984 at Baptist Hospital School of Nursing, where her peers voted her the wittiest in the class. Mom was a nurse even at the end by donating her beautiful brown eyes, skin for grafts, and blood vessels for future open heart patients. If you were privileged to know her, then you knew she said it like it was, but had a kind and generous heart. Mom was born in Morgan County, TN and raised in Maryville. Mary was preceded in death by her husband Ennis Scarbrough, her mother, Margaret Harness; father, JR Goodman; siblings Carol Braden, R.D. Harness Jr. (Junebug), Bobbie McKeehan, Susie McKeel, and half sister, Sandra Kirk. Mary is survived by her children, Jason Anderson and Holly (Tom) Potter; siblings Sam (Barbara) Newport, Patti (J.R.) Anderson, Kathy Harness and half sister Diane (Frank) Cottles; very special uncle and aunt, JR and Estelene Hamby; The loves of her life were her grandchildren, Hanna, Peyton, and Jenna King; Numerous nieces and nephews. A special thank you to her faithful friend and cardiologist, Dr. John Acker for loving and treating our mother for many years. Mom’s final wishes were to be cremated and for no one “to sling any snot over her passing” because she was going to a better place to live for eternity with her Lord.
