Obituaries

The good Lord took Roy Smith home on September 21, 2026.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard Junior Smith and Betty Lou Allen Raper Smith; his brother Glen Ray Smith, his sister Myrtle Ann Brown, and beloved wife of fifty years Kathryn Robin Smith. He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law; Kathryn Len Smith Hall and Craig Hall; Amy and Steven Baker; grandchildren Kendra Kennedy, Nicholas Sands and Kayla Oody, Callie and Jeremy Seeders, and Landon Baker. He also leaves behind many other dear relatives and good Christian friends.

Roy was a deacon, choir director, and Sunday school teacher for many years.  He was also the lead singer of two gospel groups The Resurrection Quartet and Back To The Cross. He worked for over forty years painting cars with his family at Glen Smith Paint and Body Shop in Louisville.  The words that could be used to describe him are faithful, hardworking, spiritual influencer, encourager, prayer warrior, comedian, jokester, and the best dad a girl could ever have.  If you ever talked to him, it wouldn’t take long for him to tell you about Jesus, bring up food in some way, and have you laughing till you cried.  He leaves a legacy of faithfulness to God, church, and family…he will be truly missed, but one day we will be reunited on the streets of gold that he used to so beautifully sing about.
