Larry Bruce Lawhorn, 67, of Maryville, woke up in heaven on Monday, October 1, 2018. A native of Columbus, Georgia and a retired long-distance truck driver, he was loved and respected by people across the country. He was born in Hazelhurst, Georgia to Vasco and Lois Lawhorn on September 28, 1951. He married his devoted and adoring wife of 37 years, Judith Gaile Elliott, on November 13, 1981. Throughout his life, Larry enjoyed traveling for his career and relating the stories of those travels to anyone he met. An avid reader and enthusiast of science-fiction and westerns, he fostered a love of stories in his daughter’s heart at an early age. Never one to meet a stranger or to refuse the opportunity to help someone, he led his life in a way that illustrated true kindness and portrayed an example of what it means to be a good neighbor. He is preceded in death by his cherished parents, Vasco and Lois Lawhorn; beloved mother-in-law, Mary Whatley; treasured sister-in-law, Myra Ann Craig; and dear friend, Billy McMullin. Survivors include his wife, Judith Lawhorn; daughter and son-in-law, Amanda and Dallas Clark; siblings and spouses, Nina and Donald Buffkin, Vickey and Robert Hix, Carlyon and Johnny Rose, James and Marie Lawhorn, V.W. Lawhorn, and Glen and Dawn Lawhorn. Additional survivors include best friend and brother-in-law, Jerry Elliott and his wife Terri; a dear uncle, Gene Hollis; a copious amount of adored nieces and nephews; and several close friends.
