Judith Gaile Lawhorn, 73, of Maryville, passed away peacefully at Blount Memorial Hospital on December 28, 2021. Originally from Columbus, Georgia, Judy was a cornerstone of her family and community in a way that many aspire to be. Aside from her many professional roles throughout her life, her true calling was that of a care-giver and educator within her family, and she was truly called to serve in both areas. Across her years, Judy was an avid reader, but her true pursuit of literature amounted to her strong desire to pass her knowledge along to those who most needed it. She frequently expressed to her daughter that “books were friends,” and she strived to be of service to anyone and everyone around her, often educating herself to help others. Preceded in death by her beloved husband of 37 years, Larry Lawhorn; mother and father, Mary and Tommie Elliott; cherished sisters, Myra Ann Craig and Katherine Fields; brothers, Jerry Wayne Elliott and Terry Fields; and sister-in-law, Carlyon Rose. Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Amanda and Dallas Clark; sisters-in-law, Terri Elliott and Ronda Fields; treasured nieces, Angela (David) Wilson and Gayle (Charles) Bennett; and an abundance of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Additional survivors include special friends within the McMullin and Clark families, and cherished neighbors in the King and White family.
