Celebration of Life to be held at Chilhowee Primitive Baptist Church (Red Top), 7200 Happy Valley Road, Tallassee, TN 37878. Receiving of friends from 3:00PM-4:00PM on Sunday, April 19, 2026 with Celebration of Life to follow. In honor of Mike’s memory, the family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Vacation Bible School Fund at Chilhowee Primitive Baptist Church, a cause to which he devoted much of his time and passion.

Jimmy Michael Shope, known lovingly to family and friends as Mike, passed away at the age of 68. A lifelong resident of Maryville, TN, Mike was a man whose quiet devotion to family, friends, and community defined every chapter of his life. Among the greatest joys for Mike was his marriage to Jeannie Shope. Their union was the foundation upon which he built a full and meaningful life and their partnership was a testament to the lasting love and unwavering commitment to each other. This love only came second to his love in Christ. A faithful member of Chilhowee Primitive Baptist Church (Red Top). Mike found strength and community in his faith, which was a central part of his life. His connection to the church reflected his values and his caring spirit, which touched many.
Mike loved beekeeping and cherished the opportunity to share his knowledge with his grandchildren. He loved his grandchildren unconditionally and enjoyed nothing more than being with them. He will be remembered for his warmth, kindness, and excitement for when his grandkids were around.
Proceeded in death by his wife: Jeannie Shope, his mother: Effie Buchanan, his brother: Leonard Shope, and his sister: Gladys Coada. He is survived by his children: Michael C. Shope, Lisa (Ray) Mills, Nancy (James) Morton, Angela (Dustin) Van Dyke and his grandchildren: Austin, Sadie, Carter, and Gabriel.
