Georgie Charles Costner, lovingly known as “ Georgie Bell“, left this life on Sunday, January 24, 2021. Georgie died at home, where she loved to be more than anywhere else on earth. She celebrated her 101st birthday on September 15, 2020 with family and friends nearby. Georgie lived a long and steady life raising three sons and being the best Mamaw ever to all of her grandchildren. She was an avid gardener, always having at least one vegetable garden and sometimes two. She had a true green thumb and much preferred “being outside” to most any indoor activity. Georgie had nine siblings and grew up in a time of economic Depression as a sharecropper’s daughter. Because of this she was a “saver” and valued every blessing that came her way. Georgie married Alvin Glenwood Costner in 1937 and they had three sons together. Alvin worked at Alcoa Aluminum while Georgie was a homemaker, mother and gardener. Together they helped care for their elderly family members and neighbors with home cooked meals and bounty from the garden. Alvin passed in April 2003. Georgie Bell will truly be missed by family and friends; an icon and matriarch in the family. Until we meet again…
