Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 19, 2024, at 8:30 am at the East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery, located at 2200 E Governor John Sevier Hwy, Knoxville, TN 37920. Following the service, a reception and celebration of Rojean’s life will be held at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 1916 Overlook Ave, Jefferson City, TN 37760, at noon. As we gather to honor Rojean’s memory, let us remember her with the words: “Those we love don’t go away, they walk beside us every day. Rojean Nezzie Ellis, born on March 20, 1952, in Exeter, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2024, at the age of 72 in Maryville, Tennessee. Rojean was a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and friend who touched the lives of all who knew her. Rojean lived a life marked by intelligence, kindness, and an unwavering love for music and dance. A dedicated and hardworking woman, she spent most of her career serving the state. She was a woman of faith who believed deeply in God and carried that belief with her throughout her life. She proudly served her country in the United States Air Force. Rojean was the loving mother of three children: Jamil Champion, Jessica Boyd, and Candace Romero. She is also survived by her brother Zoe Dalton, her grandchildren Destiny Champion, Jesse Romero, Jamil Champion II, Victoria Romero, Alexandria Weber, Isabella Romero, Christian Champion, and Olivia Champion, and the father of her children, Rick Champion. She was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Velma Dalton, her father, Donald Dalton, her husband, Tim Ellis, and her dear daughter, Spring May Champion. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all who have offered their love and support during this difficult time. Your kindness and compassion have been a great comfort to us all.
