Service Date January 3, 2024

The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at New Hope Baptist Church, located at 605 Dotson Memorial Road, Maryville. Funeral services will follow, with Pastor Mike Parker officiating. Family and friends will gather on Thursday, January 4, 2024, at Unitia Cemetery for 1:00 P.M. graveside service.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to New Hope Baptist Church, 605 Dotson Memorial Road, Maryville, or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

John Tate McDaniel, age 87, of Friendsville, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on Sunday, December 31, 2023. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and retired from Harrison Construction Company. John loved Gospel music, especially the old hymns, and he loved to go fishing. He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, JoAnn McDaniel; son, Kirk McDaniel; sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Earl Quillen; parents, Manuel and Ailene McDaniel. He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Carolyn McDaniel of Friendsville, his children: Johnny and Wanda McDaniel of Lenoir City, Michele and Joe Phillips of Madisonville, Jeff McDaniel of Friendsville, Tammy and Crawford Cunningham of Maryville, Tracy McDaniel of Maryville; grandchildren: Kirk McDaniel of Tarpon Springs, FL, Nicholas Phillips of Greenback, Nathaniel and Jamie Phillips of Maryville, Kristina and Brandon Watts of Maryville, Marlaina Phillips of Madisonville, Callie Jo Cunningham of Maryville, and Caleb Cunningham of Maryville, his step daughter, Joy Hubbard of Knoxville, step grandchildren, Kelli and James Hubbs III of Franklin, NC, Devin and Katie Baker of Maryville, step great-grandchildren, Robert Hubbs IV of Franklin, NC, and Kaitlyn Hubbs of Franklin, NC, along with several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
