Ruth “Billie” Hensley, 93 of Maryville, born June 25, 1924 and passed away peacefully May 3, 2018. She was born and raised in Knoxville, TN, to the late Frank and Mary Mincey. She was a member of Belmont Heights Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her Sons: Dennis and James Albert, her Daughter: Sheila, and her Sisters: Helen Murman, and Joan Mincey. She is survived by her Sister: Jean Drury, Son: David (and wife Pat) Marshall, and Daughters: Penney Claiborne and Janice Hensley. She is also leaves behind five grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She attended Rule High School. In the 1940’s she proudly worked on the Manhattan Project at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, as part of the group that would later be celebrated as the Atomic City Girls. At the conclusion of World War II, she started a family. She was immensely proud of her children and devoted her time to raising them. She enjoyed reading, growing flowers, cooking, vacations to the beach, and crossword puzzles. After her children had grown, she worked at Hill’s department store for many years; a job she enjoyed because it allowed her to meet new people. After her retirement, she moved to Maryville, TN, where she continued to hone her skills at Scrabble and Sudoku puzzles, and develop into an avid Rook player. Her radiant smile, wonderful sense of humor, and sharp wit brought tremendous joy to our lives. As the nexus of our family, her absence has left us with an un-fillable void. We miss her dearly, but we take great comfort in knowing we will be reunited in Heaven.
